Welcome to Kirkwood, the "church in the woods.” Nestled among towering oaks and colorful dogwoods and camellias, we offer the surrounding Springfield, Virginia area and greater community a place of worship and song, of prayer and learning. We offer the Lord of Life whose compassion and comfort and whose grace and guidance may be found in a gathering of fellow Christians, drawn together in faith, hope and love. We are young and old, married and single, and together we are sisters and brothers of Jesus Christ.

The Giving Tree: The Giving Tree is in our Narthex to help children of families who are clients of ECHO. You can help by donating new, unwrapped toys, games and clothing. Items that are popular for younger children are Barbie doll clothing, baby dolls and accessories, activity books, electronic toys, and track car sets.  Items for young teens include sports logo shirts, quality headphones, books for 10-14 year-olds, hoodies or polar fleece jackets for girls or boys, sizes 14, 16, adult small and medium.  These items must not be wrapped.  Please drop items off at the Church no later than this Sunday, December 9 so we can deliver to ECHO.

S.O.M.E. Sandwich Making: This Sunday, December 9 (please note this is a week earlier than usual), immediately after the worship service, volunteers will gather in the Fellowship Hall to prepare sandwiches for So Others Might Eat.  Contributions of bologna or sliced cheese are welcome and should be placed in the kitchen refrigerator.  Join us for fellowship and to help feed the homeless.

Kids Helping Kids: This Sunday, December 9 (please note this is a week earlier than usual) is Kids Helping Kids!  All kids of Kirkwood, get ready to help assemble weekend food packs for hungry students at Newington Forest Elementary after service in the Fellowship Hall.  Donations of boxed mac & cheese, ramen noodles, instant oatmeal, canned chicken or tuna, cheese and crackers, and granola bars are always welcome.  Bring your items with you to the Fellowship Hall. See you there!

Interim Pastor Selected: Kirkwood’s Session is pleased to announce that the Rev. Susan Wilder will be Kirkwood’s interim pastor, beginning January 1, 2019. Susan is a familiar face to some of us, having served as a Parish Associate at Kirkwood in 1997-1999, including time as acting pastor while Rev. Campbell was on sabbatical.  She was an Associate Pastor at Grace from 1989-1996.  We are excited about this next phase of Kirkwood’s ministry and the leadership Susan will provide.

Winter Storm Communication: In the case of a winter storm, Kirkwood will use the following communication methods to update the congregation about any church schedule changes:

Concert from Kirkwood: We will get Christmas week off to a rousing start on Saturday, December 22 at 3:00 pm as vocal quartet Classical FX returns as one of our Christmas favorites with a new and festive program for the whole family. What better way to start the week than with a scintillating family program with some of our favorite artists?

The Christmas Joy Offering is one of four special offerings for the Presbyterian Church (USA). Gifts contributed to this offering provide financial support and grants for current and retired Presbyterian Church workers and support leadership and education at Presbyterian-related schools and colleges.
