Greetings to all! Be sure to mark your calendars for a very special 20th Anniversary Celebration of Concerts from Kirkwood!

Our season premieres Saturday, September 9th at 3pm with wind quintet, DISTRICT5, who are also celebrating an anniversary of performing for 10 years together. Laura Kaufman Mowry, flute, Alison Lowell, oboe, Amy Eich, clarinet, Matthew Gregoire, bassoon and Josh Thomposon, french horn, will be presenting "Hopelessly Romantic". "Relationships, they can go so right or just so wrong...Experience the passions and pitfalls of love as District5 guides you through a humorous afternoon of tantalizing works by Hector Berlioz, Cecil Chaminade, Franz Liszt, Amy Beach and more!"  www.district5quintet.org

The next concert is during Advent and will be an entire program of seasonal music performed by a second quintet! The Commonwealth Brass members, Chuck Seipp-Trumpet, Gil Hoffer- Trumpet, Rick Lee-French Horn, Greg Hammond-Trombone and Jon Voth-Tuba will be sharing incredible talent on Saturday, December 16th at 3pm. This Ensemble's entertaining style and varied repertoire has dazzled audiences for world events in the DC area and around the world as members of DC military bands.

The second half of the season will be a captivating and interactive program, "Bach, Banjos and the Hero's Journey" performed by a unique player, John Bullard, Classical Banjo. He has a well established and critically praised performing and recording career and also belongs under the artist roster of the Virginia Commision for the Arts. This concert is on Saturday, March 2nd at 3pm. www.johnbullard.com

Our next concert on Saturday, May 4th at 3pm will present MANY talented and upcoming young artists who are graduate students from the Benjamin T. Rome School of Music at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Dr. Ivo Kaltchev, Head of Piano Academic Area and Ordinary Professor will be bringing not only solo pianists, but vocalists singing arias & art songs and instrumental chamber musicians as well!

Concerts from Kirkwood began in the fall of 2003 with a vocal quartet performing for the FIRST CONCERT. That quartet became the performers named Classical FX - the group who has been a favorite of this series and will return on Saturday, June 15th at 3pm. Make sure to come for this mini-concert followed by a reception to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of both!

You, the audience attendees, music lovers and patrons are the reason this series still exists! We are grateful for your continued financial support via checks, cash or online donations. This enables incredible professional musicians to perform in the beautiful acoustic Sanctuary of Kirkwood Presbyterian Church. I look forward to seeing familiar and faces  this season!
